EXPLANATION

English has a rich vocabulary, a large number of words from which to choose, enabling us to express shades of meaning easily. Adjectives, in particular, help us to do this because each adjective has synonyms with slightly different shades of meaning. For example, to describe Uluru (Ayers Rock) as merely 'big' would downplay the enormity of the biggest 'rock' in the world. It would be more aptly described as 'massive' or 'colossal'.

Arrange each set of synonyms below in ascending order (e.g. of size or intensity).
